RE: RV.net 6th Annual Class B Rally. Voting Results Are In!

Johnny, Best guess is that some campgrounds on the up side of the globe just don't want to see "no Beverly Hillbillies-trailer park trash-flower power hippie bus-ain't scrubbed that thing is 20 years-didn't cost at least $250,000-piece of junk" parked next to their shiny, expensive Moto Mc Mansion customers! :M At least our dinosaur, orphan, classic, vintage, antique, and sometimes obsolete rigs are clean, quiet, run well and ARE PAID FOR.:B Just my humble, slightly-insulted-by-the-idea opinion.:W John

RE: RV.net 6th Annual Class B Rally. Voting Results Are In!

A quick question about each of the proposed destinations: Do any of these parks have any restrictions about the AGE of the vehicle?? We DO have at least three orphan/dinosaurs among us. John

RE: Bridgestone tires P225 75R16 V-Steel 10 Ply DOT 2003

Matt, "Elec" definitely means shore (120V) power on your refrigerator. First check your breakers and fuses in the panel above your converter. Then open the reefer door outside and be certain that there is no switch in there to turn the reefer on. Double check to see that the reefer thermostat is turned up fairly high. You will have to keep it plugged at least overnight to feel some results. If that doesn't work, you will probably have to wait until you have straightened out your LPG hose to try it on "gas." Maybe Handbasket has some other options...Jim? If nothing works and you don't want to go to an RV repair shop, let us know before you consider buying a new one; it is possible to replace only the cooling unit in the reefer...provided you are fairly good with tools. RE: Quick 'B' Eats After An 'Exhausting' Drive

Nope, 'Twas Ft. Bragg, NC., before the days when the National Jamboree was moved permanently to A.P. Hill. IIRC was '58 or '59. In order to stay in the "B" mode.....We, also, often use the Hormel 90-second meals; they aren't too bad and they are certainly quick. Our daughter gave us a 12V "lunchbox" that will also keep a meal hot all day long: "Road-Pro Portable Stove"; check it out at your friendly neighborhood truck stop or (here) John

RE: Bridgestone tires P225 75R16 V-Steel 10 Ply DOT 2003

Matt, Welcome to the "B" Forum! Let Qjane answer your tire questions. In order for the Falcon owners in this group to help, please give us some more info: Year, Model (check the label on the rear of the driver's -side doorpost), platform (Ford, Chev, Dodge) and tell us if the reefer is 2 or 3-way (LPG, 12V, 110V or a combination) and the manufacturer's name. With more info, we will do our best to help. John

RE: Quick 'B' Eats After An 'Exhausting' Drive

Boy Scout troop on an Army post, camping. Harry S. :C put a C-Ration can of spaghetti & meat balls on the coals to heat up for lunch; didn't think to use his P-38. He was nearby showing off some "macho" stuff when the can went "KA-BOOM" Top of can went up, sides split open, bottom remained in the fire. Thank Heavens he was wearing sun glasses . Harry got the entire blob of hot spaghetti in the face. I don't remember who got hit by the meat balls.:h When we returned to school at the end of summer, Harry was still showing the angry red tracings of the scalding spaghetti on the unprotected portions of his face. Whew, lucky catch, Rodger. Glad it didn't turn out worse. Many thanks for the "heads-up." I'm headed outside with the insulated screwdriver NOW!. John

RE: Do You Consider Your 'B' Masculine Or Feminine?

Historically speaking, all ships, boats and, later, aircraft were referred to as "She" by their captains, pilots, and operators. Yes, there are some tough, rugged vehicles out there but our Falcon is so unpredictable, cantankerous, fickle, ornery, and downright crabby...it has got to be a "SHE." :M BTW QJane, I used to have to drive many different, rugged four wheel drive vehicles for a certain "Uncle" of mine; if we referred to them lovingly as "She", they usually got us through the roughest of situations, muddy or not! :B However, if we referred to them as "You Old B#%*h" they usually left us stranded. :M Most of them didn't require anything pink or frilly, just a washdown now and then. Was your SMB built in California?? :W John

RE: Wall shield behind range - can't find one!

Marilyn, Waltraud likes the mirror surface of the one we have. I could sand it but I could never get it polished to a mirror finish. I ain't done yet! Broan/Nutone makes stainless steel "wall shield splash plates" I just have to find the right size at the right price. I may even stumble onto the one I saw in the RV catalog. I'll keep everyone posted, John

RE: Wall shield behind range - can't find one!

Gosh, you guys are fast! Many thanks to ALL of you! Don, Oldsffan,TurboDieselDude and midnightsadie: you guys are right; I should have thought about a sheet metal shop or even a good hardware store. Applegater, I will have a look-see at Home Depot and Lowes tomorrow. Marilyn, I can't believe I really stumped you! Joe is right...you can find anything...you found the crack filler for our folding bed. I will keep trying for a while to find a manufactured replacement, mostly because it has nicely turned edges. When I find it I promise to let you know. Does yours measure approximately 20" X 26"? Jim , you are right about the "stainless"...rust?? As to Falcon, they used anything they could lay their hands on. The gentle curve would be no problem...the shield is held in place with sheet metal screws which make it conform to the very gentle S-curve of the wall. The rust spot makes me wonder if there is/was a leak in the paneling behind the shield or if the rust simply was caused by cooking condensation. Thanks again to all, John

RE: Hobbies and other interests

We are very involved in Revolutionary War reenacting and Living History so we chase museums and colonial forts. I build and shoot black powder flintlock guns; Waltraud is into spinning wheels, knitting and 18th Cent. clothing and cooking. Our "real" camping style is canvas tents, open fires, iron pots and mattresses filled with straw. What a contrast to Class B "camping." I'm also a model railroader and crazy about any type of trains. We hike, wander, cook in the van and wish gasoline were cheaper. DW collects flowers and plants to take home...keeps the RV's bathtub full. Photography is a must, simply to record those finds that we might not remember. We will probably keep all this going until the bodies give out and then we'll stay home and start filling scrapbooks!

RE: Does your B have a name?

We searched long and hard but couldn't agree on a suitable name...finally decided on "Wagon Lit". If you have traveled by train in Europe you may remember that the sleeping cars are owned by a company separate from the railroads...like the Pullman Co. here at home. Those cars are marked "Wagon Lit", literally "sleeping car" and usually have rather plush compartments with fold-down beds, private WC's and velour fancies throughout and, of course, a white-coated attendant to see to the traveler's needs...of course at an increased price, kinda' like a Class B. We haven't found the attendant yet. John

Wall shield behind range - can't find one!

Friends, I have searched all of the regular RV catalogs - either it ain't there or or my memory is just plain poor! I know that I have seen them listed somewhere. DW wants the stainless steel shield which is screwed to the wall behind the range replaced...it is showing a rust spot. Ours is slightly curved to match the contour of the van's wall. I do not mean one of the folding range tops. Some of you are excellent searchers...can you help me find a replacement either online or in one of the catalogs? John

RE: Registration Now Open - B5 Rally May 16, 2008

We are still planning to leave VA on Friday morning BUT I had to pull out the heater core this afternoon because it was leaking. I had thought the leak was only in one of the hoses leading into the core. If I cannot find a replacement or have it repaired tomorrow, I plan to bypass the @#$%* thing and mush on anyhow! How the heck did MURPHY get my address? John

RE: Wuz we robbed on the Tappan Zee?

DARN RIGHT WE WUZ ROBBED!! Mid-July 2007, traveling west to east, the female toll collector demanded $13.50. I politely said: "But this is registered as a van." She said: "$13.50!" I didn't argue any more but gave her $14.00; she impatiently and with a dirty look waved me through, didn't give me any change. (Guess what my *^%#@+= opinion about that was!) At the next NY State Thruway toll booth, I asked the toll taker if that had been correct. He said that I should have paid $1.00; "We are only supposed to collect tolls, not ROB people!" Needless to say, on the return trip from Nova Scotia, I went out of my way to avoid NYC and the Tappan Zee bridge. As a Southerner, I still have a few choice (but unspoken) thoughts about that bridge and that toll taker. Even the bridge between the US and Canada on I81 only charged $2 US or $3 CDN. 'Nuff said, (On edit, even after reading the tariff chart, I'm still angry; I want my 50 cents change back!) John

Susan, I imagine that the real intent of QJane's comment was to remind you that if you type a word or sentence in CAPITALS, it is considered by the members of most forums to be SHOUTING. :E Everyone is entitled to their individual likes and dislikes, especially when it comes to interior appointments. :B One of our members even wants an all-pink interior!!! :W John

RE: Opinions: Is the Pleasure-Way Excel Too "Girly"?

Lynne, I've gotten used to your surprises but when I saw what you did to that poor Tiger, I gasped :E loud enough that Waltraud came running to see what was the matter with me! The first time I saw your rig, I noticed your tasteful, feminine embellishments but...girly...Naah. Me, I'm happy as long as the decor is utilitarian but comfortable. Anything aft of the cockpit could withstand certain amount of feminine "fine tuning" but ruffles and pillows :M have gotta' go! I still believe that Form does follow Function!!! :B John

Convection Microwaves available for Cl. B's

I have been searching for a "trustworthy/dependable" convection microwave oven for our Falcon. We have no regular oven and I like biscuits and other decadent baked goods! What brand was installed in the 2004 RT 210P listed in another thread? Are any other brands (other than the Apollo)recommended for RV use? John

Invalid formatting/Can't reach Moderator

Because I have been getting the notice "Invalid formatting", my posts and signature are simply run together. I've tried to PM the Moderator of the Class B Group but he doesn't seem to be getting my PM's. I' also e-mailed the RV Net.com address with the problem over a week ago but no reply to date. Can anyone suggest a solution? J.wook
